    It's niche, but some people don't like re-releases because new patches or bugfixes can often interfere with how previously working third party addons or even speedrunning works. For example in Half-Life 2 the re-release to a later version of the Source Engine broke a glitch used to accelerate the player to otherwise impossible speeds, or how propsurfing was done.
    Also as well I don't like buying the same game repeatedly, even if they ARE physical copies. It's the Skyrim Effect (alternately, the Myst effect?) where Bethesda released almost a dozen different versions of the same game but you HAD to buy the game each time to get that slightly alternate experience (EG, if you wanted to use VR). It gets expensive extremely fast.

    All valid points, but at least you don't have to suck up to the 'gate keeper' and seek permission to run something you already own.
