    Default Quick clock battery question

I just picked up an old DEC computer, 33mhz 386sx, 4mb of ram, 128mb hard drive, etc. My question is it's got a 4.5v Rayovac 840 clock battery in it. Do I need to get a rechargeable replacement or can I just rig something up with 3 AA batteries?

The 840 is not a rechargeable battery. Commercial replacements are available--and yes, 3xAA alkaline cells should work fine. see here

In lieu of that four cells also works just as well, either AA or AAA.

Perfect, thanks. I'll get one of those 3 or 4 AA battery holders and make a new clock battery pack for it
