    Default Informer I-301?

Vaguely recall something like this in the past. Think these were production. But it's missing the electronics unfortunately. No idea what it'll go for.

    Oops.

I got into a bidding war with the dreaded b*****a. He really wanted this thing bad and we kept bidding back and forth for about 30 minutes until he finally gave up. Anyway, looks like I 'won'. Lol. $560 and it doesn't even have the electronics that make it do what it it's supposed to do.

That is where the market sits though I guess. b*****a was all over it. I thought he was going to snipe me so I upped the bid at the end to $700.. only I accidentally entered $7000. Whoops!

It's a pretty unique piece. Hopefully the seller will find the missing electronics.

Haven't found too much about it. Far as I can tell, the I-301 was intended for business use, hence the wood box to make it blend in on a desk. The missing box has several cards, and one port for the monitor/keyboard to plug into, and one serial port and that's it. I've seen pictures of at least four different ones, all same wood box design. One of them was labelled an MAI Basic Four terminal, although it was obviously Informer underneath.

Might be possible to raspberry Pi something with this. I do think it's pretty cool and unusual. And sending b*****a home empty handed was a nice touch.

Amazing! On behalf of all of us who lost to b***a, I salute you, sir. Your win brings a tear to my eye.

I've got a picture of that thing, but it's branded "Basic / Four".

Edit: Ah, I see you linked to the same image. (so my post was... basically useless)

Yeah I don't know if I won or if he gamed me.

I don't even know if I could repurpose it... the missing box with the terminal boards also has the power supply for the monitor.r

    Dang.

So it looks like Fed Ex has lost this one. It was shipped up from my US forwarder with my Mac 128k. Two boxes together that somehow got separated. The story is something about a mechanical failure with the plane, thus the separation, but now they don't really know what happened. Their tracking indicates both boxes made it to me, even though I was here and only received one. Maybe b******a flew up from California and nabbed it from the truck.

Unfortunate. Even though this terminal was missing the actual terminal parts and could not do anything useful, it was still a cool piece. I had been looking for the last month in hope of finding the box that has the power supply and electronics, but no dice. There is so precious little info on this terminal it's almost like it didn't exist. I did find a few scraps of info on the MAI branded variant of it, but not much more.

This is why I've refused to send my Mark-8 boards out to be scanned - not because I'm a miser and don't want anyone to benefit from a good scan, but because I just know of the 100 boxes Fed Ex gets to me safely each year, that would be the one they fumbled on.

Hopefully I will be getting decent compensation for this loss. On the plus side, I just picked up a nice COSMAC VIP that the owner thinks was personally owned/used by Joseph Weisbecker (I'm not so confident on that but he claims to have some info that points that way).

That's tragic. I wouldn't be surprised if b***a did somehow get it off the truck. On the only other known occurrence of b***a losing something he wanted, he tried bribing the seller to give it to him instead. (the seller honourably refused)

Really? Heh. Yeah he seemed pretty determined to have this machine. I was shocked he didn't throw in a last minute bid.

It's unfortunate that it's probably lost forever in the bowels of a FedEx warehouse now. I've been waiting for 3 weeks to get FedEx to process my insurance claim on it. They are really dragging their feet.
