Default capatob/saratov - cross posting. Looking for help.

    Three questions:
one: a similar message has been posted to a number of lists. Sorry if you are getting bombed.
I have the front panel off a ?Russian? Capatob computer. Rumours are that this is a sort of pdp8/m.
I am planning to reenergise the panel and drive it with Joerg Hoppes blinkenboard kit (it gave great results on my 11/70 front panel).

Can anybody shed any light on this computer - or better a circuit diagram of the front panel?
If you are interested, there are some photos (under dev) at https://www.scotnet.co.uk/iain/saratov

    two
Does anyone know where I can find the circuit diagrams for the programmer console on the pdp8 series?
I have searched a lot (but not all) of the bitsavers and cant find anything showing the bulbs!

    three
where can I get bulbs for the pdp8 (and hopefully for this thing?)

    Appreciated

Looks a lot more like an 8/I than an 8/M. Console prints are for the 8/I (and all other 8s) are definitely on line at bitsavers. Info on front panel bulbs is on Vince Slyngstad's site - http://so-much-stuff.com/pdp8/repair/bulbs.php .

Thanks for that. I will keep hunting - KC8-AE is what I think the part is?

Years ago I am sure I read that some folk were putting in bulb holders - to allow later bulb changes without resoldering. Am I making that up? Has anybody seen the same notes Vince Slyngstad's site does not mention holders but has me on route for the bulbs.

I have had some luck simply using machine pin sockets in the bulb holes, then pressing the bi-pin bulbs into the sockets.
I did this for my 8/I lights boards mentioned here: http://www.so-much-stuff.com/pdp8/4sale/4sale.php
The tricky part is sinking them way down, so that the socket body is inside and under the PCB, except for the topmost lip.
(You might have to slightly enlarge the hole to do that.) Otherwise the hot bulb is moved too close to the plastic with the artwork on it.
