Hi Chuck, I wanted to thank you for your advice (in another thread) on using the high temp silicon vacuum hose to replace the drive wheel on the Wangtek drives. The 6mm hose worked wonders.

The largest problem I had was how to cut the hose straight. If your cut is just off a little, the silicon hose will work its way off the drive spindle over time. I ended up buying some 1 inch 1/4 diameter PCB standoffs. I slid about 12mm of the silicon hose on the standoff, I then put the exposed end in a drill press. At that point you can use a razor blade to cut the hose straight. After the first cut, I put a flat washer and screw on the stand off, pressing the fresh cut hose against the washer. After this you can cut perfect 5mm strip for the drive wheel.

Anyways, that was the largest hurdle to getting this Wangtek 5150EQ drive functioning, and your pictures and description started my inspiration for this.

    Hi Al, Everyone,

After an exhaustive search, I found a backup of my original 4.08 disks. I uploaded them over at Vetusware. The file is evt408.zip, and filed under Everex EVTape.

I'll start the restore process tomorrow.....fingers crossed.

    Thanks Al,

I was able to recover the files on my old tapes. It's amazing that these old tapes still hold their data.

    Thank you all.
