Thread: DEC VAX 4000-300 w/ R400X

    Default DEC VAX 4000-300 w/ R400X

I saw this unit for sale and it looks like the R400X is a drive expansion chassis, is that correct? How does it connect to the VAX 4000, SCSI? What external drives would I be able to connect to it(Tape,Disk)?

    Thanks

It would use DSSI and have DSSI enabled hard drives in them, typically RFxx series.

What type of cable/card do you need to connect a B400x card expander to a VAX4000-300?

For the Q-Bus connection the expansion chassis should have an M9405-PA card and the CPU chassis should have an M9404-PA card. Each card has two 3-row 50-pin D-shell connectors. Two of the 50-pin cables are needed to connect the two cards together. The cable part might be a BC04V-09 (which should be a 9 foot long cable).
