Default Help deciphering Supersoft results on 5150

    Hi all,

I have a 64-256KB 5150 motherboard that is failing the critical memory test with the Supersoft diagnostic ROM. Iíve removed all chips from banks 1-3.

According to http://minuszerodegrees.net/supersof...64KB-256KB.htm I should expect failures past memory address 10000 (64K). Supersoft is also reporting memory errors at these addresses:

    Code:

    05040
    04000
    0c000
    14000
    1c000
    24000
    2c000
    34000
    3c000
    44000
    4c000
    54000
    5c000
    64000
    6c000
    74000
    7c000
    84000
    8c000
    94000
    9c000
    00000
    08000
The diagnostic summary shows the total errors as 3 when the first pass completes. All other (non-memory) tests passed. Iíve read through the memory test section of the Supersoft manual a few times, but Iím not understanding how to interpret these results. Would I be correct in assuming that all 9 chips in bank 0 are bad?

Expect a screen similar to that shown at [here]. That screen was produced when I simulated a failure of bit 2 in bank 0. Note the row in the bottom-right labeled "FAILING BITS" and how in that row, bit 2 is marked with a cross.

Consider too the use of Ruud's diagnostic ROM. See [here].

The kind of output expected from that for failed RAM bits is shown at [here].

Yeah the failing bits were kind of all over the place throughout the test. I had to record a video because I couldn’t write them down fast enough. I didn’t know about Ruud’s diagnostic ROM, I’ll check that out too.

    Thanks
