    Maxtor drives are notorious for randomly failing, lucky to still have it working. I've had a number of them fail on me while I was using them and about 30 of them just not readable for no reason. Thank god they aren't made today

    Obviously, since they can't fail when you're not using them.

    I still have old working Maxtors. Every single HD company has gone through bad products.
    What I collect: 68K/Early PPC Mac, DOS/Win 3.1 era machines, Amiga/ST, C64/128
    Nubus/ISA/VLB/MCA/EISA cards of all types
    Boxed apps and games for the above systems
    Analog video capture cards/software and complete systems

    I've had pretty good luck with Maxtors... honestly haven't too many bad experiences with one brand in particular.
