    Default Looking for a 6502 assembler cross-compiler

that I can run on my modern MacBook Pro (OSX Mojave). I have a bunch of 6502 assembly work to do and it might be a little painful to keep going back and forth to my real machine. Figure I can assemble on my Mac, test on an emulator and then move the code to the real thing.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Corey

I use the online https://www.asm80.com/ assembler. If you name your files .a65 it works with a 6502 CPU. It contains a little simulator and debugger as well. I have developed my PETTESTE2K PET TEST EPROM with it. Seems to work really well.

My iMac is my real machine... I do run parallels for FPGA software (until the manufacturers work out that there are other platforms other than Windows) and DOSBox for other 'old' .COM and .EXE files that I use as well.

The CC65 suite contains an assembler, C compiler, linker, and Apple 2 runtime library.

The assembler also supports the 65816, but the C compiler does not (so no //gs C software).

I used CHC's xa to develop the original creaky 2011 version of Pettester, so I'll vouch for it.

Just to complete the "picture": http://john.ccac.rwth-aachen.de:8000/as/
This one supports a lot of different architectures (including of course the 6502 and derivatives) and should be working on OSX too.

I lack a modern MacBook Pro (OSX Mojave), if I had one, I would build it for you. I've done builds using a PowerPC Mac (Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.)
