    I use a different approach--I have a second 21" 4:3 monitor sitting on my desk next to the large WQHD one, which allows me to move the second display to a comfortable viewing position. I tend to work out of text-mode command prompts with reference material scattered around the display. I'm not into graphics work.

    So, for 2 screens (off the same graphics adapter):
    Code:
    #!/bin/bash
    xrandr --output VGA-0 --auto
    xrandr --output VGA-0 --right-of DVI-0
    ...and to return to single screen:
    Code:
    #! /bin/bash
    xrandr --output VGA-0 --off

    I'm still doing fine with NTSC composite, frankly.

    I do to, on a 12" monochrome CRT, say. But it's very problematic on a VGA LCD.
