Thread: Is there a PAL8 assembler for Windows?

  1. #1

Question Is there a PAL8 assembler for Windows?

Hi! I'm trying to convert an old program to make it suitable for Omnibus machines and peripherals...
Is there a PAL8 assembler which runs on Windows? So that I can just edit and compile the code
on a modern computer and then sent a binary to real iron to test? Would be a great help...

    Palbart https://www.pdp8online.com/ftp/software/palbart/

You can run the binary on a real PDP-8 or under SIMH.

Roland, when you get this to work, could you give me and anyone else interested, a short tutorial on how it is used? I am familiar with PAL8, just not how to use it on a windows machine. Thanks Mike

According to the palbart man page, it outputs directly to BIN or RIM format.

Palbart.exe runs from the command line on a Windows machine, at least through Win7. I haven't tried it on Win10. Read the docs at Mike's link above. Basic syntax is >palbart xxx.pa.

Great! The version over there would not run on Windows 10.
I've recompiled it and now it works on my Windows 10 machine as well.
I will check if sharing just the .exe file is enough.

I will do that, but it is really simple to use. Just run " palbart source.pa " in your command line in windows.
You will get a .LST .BIN and in case of an error also an .ERR file. The BIN file can be loaded directly
trough the BINLOADER into the PDP8.

Here is the recompiled exe in a zip file: PALBART.zip
