IBM PS/2 Model 9595 Boot error 00017200

I got a really nice ps/2 system a while back and it seems to have some issue =/

on boot it right away shows error 00017200 both on chassi lcd and on monitor thru XGA card.

I have only CPU complex card and XGA card in system, nothing else connected, removing XGA card shows still same error och lcd display.

Currently no ram in system, but having tried it with ram it shows same error ( not completely sure i have right amount of memory and in right slots tho, anyone have reference to this?)

I have looked over system and cant see anything obvious broken, i have also tried with two different CPU complex cards with same result.

Any ideas?

Hello, yes i found that errorcode but not so sure what it means or what i can do about it :/

Yes new cr2032 installed, made no difference :/

The NVRAM either has invalid contents (is this coming up immediately AFTER you turn the machine on or does it at least try to query the floppy drive for a configuration diskette?) or for some reason the NVRAM is tested at POST and it's failed, meaning you have bad NVRAM memory.

Or I might not know what I'm talking about here.

It comes up straight away dosnt try the floppy or anything no.
Where is the NVram, is there any way to reset the contents maybe? or does it suggest some chip is bad?

Get hold of the RefDisk and (complex-independent) DiagDisk and boot off the RefDisk. And put the video adapter back in or you won't know what to do next. That will have caused a 165 error already.

From the Main Menu (before anything else) CTRL+A will put you into Advanced diagnostics (after inserting the Diagdisk). Run test one time - system board.

It might make a lot of sense to clean inside, and check there's no conductive material on the RTC/CMOS and NVRAM chips' contacts etc. Don't write off a planar until you're sure.

You'll need the Reference Diskette in the A: drive at power-up to resolve BIOS setup and/or hardware errors like this.

Which processor complex do you have, as the 9595 series had the -xMx submodel with the Type-3 486DX50 complex, as opposed to the Type-4 486DX2-66 and Pentium-based complexes. The Reference Diskette is different depending upon complex type. The Diagnostics diskette is common to all submodels.

Ctrl+A from the RefDisk Main Menu will prompt for the Diagnostics Diskette. Then you can test the planar's features etc.

BTW, if no diskette in the A: drive at power-on try pressing F1... It may try booting a RefDisk inserted after power-up.
