Exactly--the caution here is not to go overboard. You can get DDS4 and DDS5 tape drives that are fed with differential ultra640 SCSI, which would be expensive overkill--your P3's disk could never keep up with the tape drive. A DLT IV capable drive is about as far as you'd want to go in the DLT area with a P3 box.
I didn't touch on LTO--for a PC, I think it'd be expensive overkill again.
