Although I was joking, it almost seems like I'm collecting them.

I thought you approved of taking in ferals and whatnot.

With regard to vintage macs, my interest stops mainly at Quadras. The newer ones I have no use for.

I absolutely do believe in rescue. In the cat world, collecting and rescue have very divergent meanings.

Why not just go with Windows 10, I see no downside to that.

    Crosshair VI Hero Update

This is the first time that I've ever run across an explanation of this type. Here I've been diligently attempting to fix a W7 driver issue and now Asus says there is no driver and there is no issue. Evidently what's supported with the W10 drivers on this board is not fully support with the W7 set. After spending the better part of the evening searching for a solution, the follow popped up from Asus:
    ================================================== ========
    PCI Device Driver

    1 Overview

Windows thinks PCI as a device and require a driver for it. Therefore, we provide a null driver package, a .inf file without .sys file, to satisfy OS requirements.

    This driver supports Win7 and RS1(32-bit & 64-bit architecture).

    2 Required Files

To install the driver, the following files are required:

    AMDPCIDEV.inf installation setup script
    AMDPCIDEV.cat digital signature

    3 Installation/Uninstallation

When OS asks for a driver for PCI device, point it to the inf file.

To uninstall the driver, open device manager, right click the device and select uninstall from the popup menu.

    4 Troubleshooting

If you should encounter any problems, uninstall the driver and reboot.

This current setup works fine with only the 2 yellow flags in Device Manager concerning the problematic PCI and PSP Encryption/Decryption drivers showing. It's only natural that you would want all of your driver to load correctly. I've gone through the routine as described and I must be missing something, as I haven't been able to load the 'placebo' drivers. I will keep at it for a while but still intend to contact Asus.

Welcome to the forum. Read the entire thread. This is a Windows 7 project on a modern mobo featuring a Ryen CPU.

    Crosshair VI Hero Update

This build is now complete, up and running, and all the side panels are back on the case. The primary mission to build a modern PC on the Windows 7 platform is a done deal (for me). Below are some of the Crosshair VI Hero/Windows 7 key issues and how they are/were addressed:

    • Need to slipstream USB 3.0 installation support through either Asus or Gigabyte apps.
    • Need to manually load some USB drivers.
    • Need to manually load Nvidia 1080 driver.
    • Picked off 12 vdc from a 6/8 pin PCIe cable to the 4 pin motherboard auxiliary 12 v receptacle through a 6 pin to 4 pin adapter pigtail.
    • Permanently disabled W7 updates through a registry hack.
    • Currently running Asus supplied trial version of Kaspersky antivirus.
    • Current motherboard now appears stable after the third try (tsk tsk Asus).
    • Out to Nvidia for possible driver package installation fix.
    • Some difficulty and seemly exasperating experience in obtaining a legal W7 retail package (beware of counterfeits).
    • XP games like Tom Clancy's H*A*W*X runs fine.
    • Every high-end game that I have in my library runs on this machine.

Ok, I like it. I'll take it. I'll send you my address in a pm, you send me yours. The kittens will be arriving by slowboat (I'll need volunteers for each leg of the journey, each being no more then 90 miles), but you can send the pc right on out. I'll also send you some ample plastic sheeting as they'll likely puke all over your house, as they currently are in mine. You're getting all 4 though, so that's a big plus. Queeg, Deets, Zoe, and Nanna (rhymes with Ghana not Banana).

Well, thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass. Stoney and Jesse live next door and they are huge Labs. I don't think Q, D, Z, and N would stand a chance.
