Thread: Picked up a CRT in the trash - horizontal stretching/smearing

Default Picked up a CRT in the trash - horizontal stretching/smearing

Maybe it isn't worth fussing with, but it looks like an HP 17" or 19" CRT. It will display a picture, but horizontally it is blurry and oddly stretched in places. The horizontal size control doesn't affect the width of the image and the image is too wide as if it is extending maybe 0.5-1" past the left and right of the display. Has anyone seen this failure before? Anything I can look at before tossing it? (I am aware of the voltages inside a CRT).

I'd open the monitor and pull the analog board. Look for bad solder joints or bad components. The neck board should also be checked.
