    Default Micro PDP 11/73

Just got my first PDP 11

Has been sat on a shelf in not the best conditions for the last 30 years, so might be a bit of a challenge to get going.
Managed to find the surround for the front panel on the shelves too, thought it had gone AWOL.

Hope the PSU doesn't go pop, I actually have two 40 year vintage power supplies to fire up with very large electrolytics, would it be worth getting a Variac ? they are quite expensive and I dont think I will find one lying about to borrow.

Can't think the RD-52A will work, but hey, you never know.

Do you know what boards you have in it? Is it in a BA-23 rackmount/deskside enclosure? If so, you might find EK-186AA-MG-001 the BA23 Enclosure Maintenance guide to be of some use, but that doesn't say what minimum load you might need, if any, to test the power supply without the cards installed.

Need to have a look. Its the rack mount enclosure and has a RD52 and a TK50.

I think the RD52 has a pretty good chance. Mine has a couple of RD54s and has always come up OK though one of them makes an awful noise as it’s spinning up. Not uncommon though, just dry bearing, and once it gets going and the heads load it’s OK.

I’ve a large variac but probably a bit far away to bother. (Fife).

    Gary,

I hope this isn't the PDP-11 we have been trying to find for 2 years now...

It was 'put away safely' by someone on site - never to be found again !

    Lol, it just might be

I know Mark P though he knew what it was for and was happy for it to be liberated. What was on the one your looking for ? I used to have a floor standing 11/73 that I used as the library computer for the Active Solid Waste CUTLASS system, but I have no idea where that went (or the Rainbow that was with it)

By the way, I have also located possibly four MicroVax II's with RX02's and RL02's that have been locked in the FLIME cubicles since development of that system was abandoned in the 80's. I can see one through the door, but no one seems to know where the keys are.
They look pristine (unlike the 11/73) and might be up for moving to BWD for 'archive' purposes ?
