Thumbs up Introduction to the PDP8 / PDP11 minicomputers. Audio visual courses

    Hi Everyone,

I have these two PDP course boxes. The tapes for the PDP11 are on YouTube.
But I wonder if anyone has the tapes / cassettes for the PDP8 course.
And I wonder if both courses are online already...

    Hi,

I also have the audiovisual course for the PDP8! The content in my box is very complete, with a nice plastic ruler with funny symbols and unfilled examination forms. But unfortunately I'm also missing the tapes...

What I understand there is no place in box for the tapes.

    Hi Anders,

I'm not sure if these tapes were included. I think only a teacher had these tapes.
So there will be way less tapes then the paper courses. But I'm not sure if it
were video tapes or maybe just an audio tape with a slide projector.

Are these available online anywhere, or otherwise?

I'm pretty sure they would be accompanied by audio tapes with slide projector. When I was taking courses on IBM VSAM, MVS OS/VS etc. etc. around 1980 they'd just started using video courses, and video machines were ungody expensive. VHS wasn't released in the US until around 1978 and iirc the courses I had were on Betamax! I'd think that any PPD/8 and 11 courses would most certainly have been before that.

I believe this is the link to a playlist that contains the PDP-11 course:

The PDP11 tapes/slides are online. The link which Joev shows is correct.
    The PDP8 tapes/slides are unknown.

    I don't know if the PDP8 / PDP11 course books are online...

    Owhh, those tapes.
Yes, I made those video's some 20 years ago by using a Philips DVD recorder and a good brand VHS player.
Then I extracted the video stream from those DVS's (that was around 2014) and cut the data into separate parts.

Originally, the VHS tapes were apparently made by recording the screen of a unit containing a sort of slide projector and an audio tape.
On some of the video's you can hear a sort of 'beep' , this sound told the projector to advance a slide.
This is one of the reasons why some colors became less sharp. The voice remaind pretty well through all these phases.
Love the voice, it's quite clear and ear pleasing to listen too.

    Hi Ed,

Good to know that these were indeed slides with an audio tape.
Maybe the PDP8 versions will ever show up again. Who knows...
