    No glass over the PV array, just plastic? That's not nice.

    Some solar lights have the PV panel bonded to glass, while others use some sort of clear resin. The resin based PV panels tend to last a lot longer since they're sealed from moisture. The glass versions don't have any seal around them, so water gets around the sides and rots the panel from underneath until it stops working.

    Another issue with the glass PV panels is the epoxy used to secure them is sometimes acidic and will eat the panel. I've bought brand new solar lights which had DOA PV panels because of it.
