    Default Expensive day

    Damn

Just had a call from the garage. Car has failed its MOT test.

Needs four new tyres, rear brake calipers are binding and the master cylinder has a cracked overflow pipe.

Ho hum. Credit card at the ready !

Shame about the rear calipers, only this year overhauled the fronts for the same problem.

Well, thats the IMSAI savings pot depleted again

    Don't feel too bad.
One of my parking brakes has been stuck in the drum for months. Lets just say that right now I got 3-wheel stopping power.

    Bad things happen.
In the last six months I have replaced a bearing, a ballstud (this is the closer I found from "rotule" in french (kneecap won't do it )), battery, brakes and disks. None was expected. My credit card cringed. And the main belt will have to be changed next January. Pfff ! Hopefully most parts are pretty standard.
For a 16 yo car it is still in quite a good shape, though.

Annoyingly this summer I had both front calipers in bits for the same problem and it galls me to have the garage do it at main dealer prices. I knew the tyres were marginal and much too old to be on a car so had braced myself for their replacement (and I want the dealer to do it due to the almost irreplaceable Fuchs wheels) and really didn't need anymore expense.

But then again, as you say, not bad for a 32 year old car

8 years and it will never need an MOT again (though in my opinion that was a really stupid idea)

You think the CC cringes at buying new brakes and tires, try feeding it a $30-40,000 new car!

    Never tried that.

The ECM in my car recently gave up the ghost, so I understand your pain.

    Damn, needs two new calipers/pistons.

Apparently 'pitted' too badly. Now thats probably by Porsche standards and I might have accepted them.

Hey ho. find out the bill in the morning for service, four tyres, new brake fluid reservoir, two rear calipers, brake fluid.

Still, its been cheaper to service over the years than my old Mitsuibishi EVO ever was.

I wouldn't put so much in a car. My car is only a utility.

With 40 000€ I'd rather buy a small piece of land in the middle of nowhere for my old days.
