About a week ago, I upgraded all of my Ubuntu systems from 18.04 to 20.04. Currently, I'm on 20.04.1 LTS.
Now for the griping.
I was astounded to discover that my /etc/network/interfaces file was being completely ignored, the system going through DHCP to get an IP address even thoughNetwork Manager has been disabled). My systems are on static IPs--it helps when ftp-ing between systems (not necessarily Linux) to remember them by IP.
I discovered that the traditional (for decades) interface specification has been changed to something called "netplan" which uses a Python file to specify interfaces. No warning about this during upgrade, by the way. The stuff in /etc/network/interfaces is apparently now only for decoration.
And then my integrated audio, a Realtek ALC662 has gone silent. Alsamixer shows it, but pavucontrol shows only the dummy output device. I can bypass this using a USB audio adapter, but you can hear my quiet cursing from across town.
Honest, these "changes for the heckuvit" are really starting to get to me. I wonder how difficult it would be to revert to a Debian distro.
Old man grumbling...
