Repairing Miniscribe 8450 xt
I have this disk Miniscribe 8450 xt. It is from an Amstrad 1640. It is disk on a card. It appears dead. The spindle motor never turns.
The motor is not blocked. I am able to turn it.
The one thing I noticed is that all film capacitors give voltage except for one near the power input. All 22/16V capacitors give 12 volts except for this one. Same for the 6V capacitors , they give 5V.

The one in question is in the red rectangle. Power comes from top left corner of the card.
I do not have a 22/16V. Can I just try with 10/50V to just see if this is the problem? Maybe I can put it for a second and see if the motor will move? Is there other way to test while not having the proper capacitor?

Yes, you can try one out; it will do no harm. But when you say "no voltage", have you tried measuring resistance across the capacitor without power attached?

The 22/16V is still soldered. I have not removed it yet.
I have set my multimeter to 20k in the resistance section and it gives 0.98 as a reading.
So you are saying replacing temporally a 22/16V with 10/50V is OK?

Yes, just be sure to observe polarity.
