VCForum was created in early 2003. In the last 6 years we have added over 8000 members. Most of those members are inactive, but of the ones that are active most have been great members.

We occasionally have problems with members on the forum, just like you have problems with people in real life. Most problems are easily resolved to the side. Sometimes people make things far worse than they should be and the moderator staff has to get involved. We are aggressively looking for spam, abusive behavior, and to a lesser extent we try to keep the signal to noise ratio high.

When you are dealing with other forum members please keep a few things in mind:

  • The hobby attracts all types - Most people are fine, but some come with some 'loose screws'
  • Get to know the people you are conversing and trading with. Most people will honor their commitments and make things right if there is a problem when given a chance. But the burden is still on you to know the person you are dealing with.
  • When we ban people, it is usually temporary to give them a cooling off period. When we ban people permanently it is a group decision and it is not done lightly.
  • And if we ban somebody, that just means that userID is dead. The banned person can still read posts anonymously or come back under a different userID. (That last part is extremely important.) The moderator staff will do what it can to keep abusive people from coming back under a different alias, but it's not our mission to play cat and mouse with these people.
  • If you get burned by somebody here and reasonable attempts to resolve the problem fail, you can post about it. Stick to the facts. Don't turn it into a flame war - just treat it as though your post is going to warn others that there may be a problem.
  • Lastly, treat people as you would treat them if you were face to face. That solves a lot of problems before they start.
Fortunately we have a lot of great members here, and the 'loose screws' are few and far between. So enjoy what is here, and if there is a problem know that we'll try to do the right thing but we need your help doing that.

The Staff ... (Mike, Erik, Vlad, Terry and AHM in no particular order ...)
