Are there any computer groups near me?

I have an old Thinkpad that I want to fix, along with an old Apple Performa monitor. The latter sounds dangerous for me to fix alone, so I would need help. I'd like to learn how to fix things like this and would want someone to do it with. Is anyone a part of--or knows of--a group like this near (or preferably in) St. Petersburg, FL?

Unfortunately the biggest group of people I can think of that could help you would be the formerly-named MARCH group in Atlanta, GA which is an 8 hour drive from you. It is more likely that there is a hackerspace or makerspace near you that could help, so look for that instead.

The Atlanta Historical Computing Society is not related to the organization formerly known as MARCH, now a subset of the Vintage Computer Federation, other than we know most of those folks since several of us have attended VCF East over the past few years.

Kyle is correct. AHCS is its own group.

The former MARCH, now just VCF/Mid-Atlantic, has members all over (including some on other continents!) :) but our core folks are mostly lower New England to western Pennsylvania to the DC region.

I convinced Erik that this forum could use regional sub-forums. :) We're going to implement that after the site merger with the new vcfed.org is complete.

There are several computer groups around Tampa. Maybe you can contact them and see if any have members interested in assisting with more complex repairs.

Where are they though? I've tried everything I can think of to find some myself. I tried craigslist, google, and 2600.org/meetings. Do you know of any?

Here are several links I have to some. I don't know if any of these organizations are active but the websites still are. These are a bit too far for me to check in person.

Ah, thanks! The first one advertises free computer repair, but it's only free if you buy a membership:sarcasm:...
The second one is way too far away.
The third one looks like it just might work! I'm up there sometimes on Wednesdays anyway. Now I just need to see if they'll repair vintage Macs. I still want the Thinkpad fixed though, so I'd appreciate any other ideas.
