Hi folks!
A few months ago I purchased an EPSON PX-8 on Ebay and decided it best I get joined up on this forum. I am hoping to gain some knowledge on how to handle a few challenges I am up against with this beautiful machine. Naively, my goal is to turn the PX-8 into a dumb terminal for more modern boxes running Linux. I'll post a separate thread on that with some questions I have about terminal emulation or the potential of this in general.
My background: I was born in 1986 and got my start with computers somewhere around Mac OS 8. Not very retro by comparison to what I'm digging into today. A few years ago I started using an 80286 based Compaq Portable III as a retro terminal which has been working great. The challenges to get it up and running at the time were difficult but didn't feel impossible. Z80 appears to be a whole other beast however. I'm praying I won't be forced to learn Z80 assembly in order to write something that has half baked VT compatible (because that's probably over my skill level anyway).
Anyway. Nice to finally get on here and post. Looking forward to meeting some of you.
