I am a 52 year old that loves cats and computers. Army veteran ceremonial escort to Ronald Reagan and paratrooper in the 82nd airborne. I have a BFA practicing glass and bronze sculpture. My "day job" the past eight years has been to help develop, manufacture, flight and delivery of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. First computer was a Tandy XT clone with a CompuServe subscription back in 1987. Currently I run OSX, Win7, Win8.1, and many CAD programs designing objects for printing art objects. I am in the process of organizing an art show that featuring , in part, early computer technologies along side the art. I hope to share in conversation regarding the project. I have a 5051/640kb with sixpak, 5153, MX-80, some spare nose parts, first edition manuals and software. Still need an IBM XT, as well as, some adapters, dos, and friendship. I am so excited with my new computer quest, it's scary!

Cool. Welcome to the forums and the hobby! You have an IBM 5150? or the 5051 expansion unit (pretty crazy lol)? Very interesting job.. actually getting to see one of those planes let alone the neat experiences you've had elsewhere.

What got you to chose the Tandy back then?

You're in the right part of the world to be in this hobby. Once a month the Seattle Retrocomputing Society holds meetings and shows off their machines in the area. Go check them out some time. There's always someone helpful there.

Hey Kevin,

I'm also a lover of all things cat. Luckily, I'm able to control myself enough to not be the crazy cat lady. Instead, I make a monthly donation to a local no-kill cat rescue. :)

Sounds like you've got a nice collection going! I hope you find lots of friends and useful information here.

I wish I could have your experiences. I have friendly cat sleeping on my bed now. I have 10 years on you but I still feel young. My vintage systems help. BTW former Air Force prop tech with "planes on the brains."

It was a great machine, I was not able to afford the IBM XT, so like many, I purchased a clone. I now have a 5150 "B" with sixpakplus and 5153 and MX-80. I have also completed a collecting of first addition manuals to include 2 sets of PC-DOS 1.1, 2.0, 3.3. The 2.0 is for the XT when I get it and the 3.3 is for my 5155. I have an ST-225 in the 5155. I have the library fit the 5160 also. Still need a 5151. I assembled a Dell with 98SE and 5.25 360 and 1.2 drives for burning disks for the IBMs. I wish I could make more copies of Adventure but it only allowed one copy from the original, it is a boot type disk, a little different, think it was written in Fortran. I finished making a CGA to VGA converter for my multi sync so I do not use up all the life from the 5153.

I have had too many "planes on the brains" these past number of years on my current program. (haha) It is an amazing plane for sure, much different than the sheet metal legacy aircraft I first started building years ago. My cat is happy to see me around every once in awhile.

Thanks skydiving girl, the world needs more cat lovers! I am up to two cats now and am starting a cat collection too. kittyboy is an Asian leopard and crackle ball is a cute little girl I brought home as a kitten from the shelter. kittyboy and crackle ball are in love, kittyboy stopped attacking me and now tears around with his new friend, both little cuties. :)

I am going to take you up on that, not sure if those at the meeting will thank you, I talk a lot! (haha)
