I found iGeek today and was impressed. There are tons of computer related stories there along with a ton of other stuff, but the parts that most impressed me were in the History area.

There is a different take on the PCs 20th anniversary, for example, as well as a discussion of the history of DOS - more specifically why Microsoft DOS was selected over CP/M or other options for the original PC. The story is not the one you're used to.

Check it out! :)

The story I heard with DOS being selected over CP/M was
that IBM needed an OS & went to DR, but Gary Kildalls wife
refused to sign any documents for them to partnership with
IBM to write their OS.

Cheers.

The "standard" story is basically that IBM went to Kildall and was snubbed. It's usually told that IBM brought some NDA documents to sign and that Gary went flying that day leaving nobody with authority to sign so IBM left in a huff.

The article at iGeek has a different twist. It's all from hearsay and rumor, but it sounds plausible, at least.

Well part of the story I heard was Microsoft didn't have an OS,
so they recommended they go to Gary & that's when they we
rejected from Gary's Wife. This was also the story they were
telling us in school!

Then I guess I should check it to, to see what the story is.

Cheers.
