Japanese omputing

Wish it would have been researched a bit better. MSX is just mentioned with one sentence even though it was undoubtedly more popular then for example the Sharp X1 (Which was nice but too expensive). Also featuring the FM towns without even mentioning the Marty is a no-go... The Kyu-Hachi info is also a bit short, as Kyu-hachi was for Japanese what an "IBM compatible" was for western countries, a de-facto standard and the most popular PC platform at the time. The picture suggests it is only an old fashioned desktop, but there were also laptops, Towers, even handheld versions around. The downfall of the Kyu-Hachi was definitely after IBM launched its DOS/V campaign, propagating the display of Kanji characters on standard IBM PX compatible VGA gfx hardware. Because the Kanji characters were the main argument in Japan why foreign computers sucked (The usually couldn't display and handle the Japanese characters properly).

Yep, combined sales of all brands outperformed competitors except, of course, NEC's PC98. Yahoo! auctions have three dedicated 16 bit categories and two for 8 bits : PC98, X68000, FM-Towns, MSX & others :)

When in 1985 MSX2 was launched it turned out to be the most powerful machines in the 8 bit market and probably, thanks to machines like the SMX2+ and TR, they remained the same until the 8 bit era vanishes...
