Revo cameras any good?

Short answer - Nope.

Long answer - camera systems like that are what those in the industry like to call "trunk slammer specials".

Such systems are usually bought and sold by the same seedy people that do white van speaker scams. They'll buy these units, promise the moon to a victim and sell them at 3-10x the cost, PLUS labor and are gone the moment they get paid, install finished or not.

To put it in perspective, a good quality professional NVR unit alone can cost as much as that entire kit, with good quality professional grade cameras being in the $150-$400 range depending on resolution. If you want extra features, like a motorized lens or PTZ, those start around $700.

These systems are built down to a cost. REVO doesn't make the system, they have one of the big players do it for them. Many of the crappy cameras you see on retailers are made by Dahua, Hikvision, Speco or a handful of others. Such cameras are built down to a cost and sacrifice on basically everything to get to a specific price. The electronics, wire and camera CCD are sub par at best and plain awful at worst. The firmware used on the cameras and NVR/DVR unit is also VERY bad. It's often a hacked up version of the firmware used on the bigger player's OEM devices, and proprietary enough that it can't be updated by anyone other than the brand name slapped on the box. So this means if any security exploits are known and not patched, you can no longer put it on the internet, unless you want a zombie on your network. Or worse, criminals watching you in your own home.

If you want a good system, go with a reputable professional grade kit. Hikvision and Speco are decent lower end solutions, but are still leagues ahead of the garbage sold at Sams Club. I've heard good things about Digital Watchdog, but have never personally used them. If you're wanting to be a big spender, Axis is top of the line. You can generally buy these retail, but they're really intended for professional installers, so you'll pay more getting them from companies that sell them online.
