Just an funny observation I thought I'd post here. Well as strange as it may seem, it appears that I'm the only person so far who is reading this messageboard from Australia!

My second observation that isn't directed to the messageboard itself was the possibility of having a vintage computer fair down in Australia (possibly Sydney), which will advertised a year or so ago.

So are there any Aussies out there (like myself) who have an interest in vintage computing? There just doesn't seem to be. The C64 used to be a popular machine in Australia, but most of the kids that had one are now grown up & are using IBM machines! :-(

We might be a lucky country & the computer industy is turned them away from the vintage computing! :-(

I know that there is a vintage computer community in Australia. I've seen a few posts on the CCTalk list from folks down under and I often see items on eBay from there.

I'm sure we'll see some more of your neighbors here on the VC Forum soon enough!

Well eBay's no good. All that seize (to me) is people are getting
rid of their ol' computer systems! :-(

I'm not familar with CCTalk, what sort of systems are they
talking about in there (any Amstrad related ones?)?

Well, that would be great. Because it brings people from
the ol' newsgroups as well as places like CCTalk, or even
ICQ chatrooms I suppose.

Hi Erik and CP/M User!

Well I'm another collector, down here in Australia. I may well be the person you have heard of on the CC-Talk list and on eBay (at least on the buying end), Erik.

I follow CC-Talk for Lisa and older Apple information, and have imported a heap from the USA for my Apple collection (mostly things we don't see down here).

I know of a few classic computer enthusiasts here in Melbourne, but not many collectors.

I have high hopes for my collection and it's on-line presence (http://jd.sjaa.com.au/) but never enough time to work on it properly (my 17 month old son has seen to that!).

I can relate to that. My son is 16 months and change and is a handful. He, of course, manages to eat up a significant amount of my free time - all worth it!

See, CP/M User, I told you we'd have some more collectors from your neck of the woods!

One bloke I know who lives on the other side of Melbourne has
a huge collection of Amstrad CPC computers. He also has this
interest in printing pictures (of just anything in Green Screen
Colours!).

Sadily, I don't know anything about having Kids, but since
my relative has them, I know they can be a handful! ;-)

It's perhaps a bit sad that people have a collection of the
same computer (just in case they break down I suppose).
The Early IBMs here are threatened of becomming extinct
because people are taking the hardware to places which
scrap the components & use them for other things! :-(

Well, we'll just need a couple of hundred more!

Incidently, how hard is it finding old hardware in the states?

Down my way there is this place which refurbishes old hardware
(for the IBMs) & sells it. The only downside to it, is no-one
it getting rid of it, instead newer hardware is making it in,
like hardware for the Pentiums.
