What is tha best motherboard?

This is a vintage computer forum so my suggestion would be any terminated S-100 motherboard with 18 slots or more.
If you want something more current check out an appropriate website. I usually go to Tom's Hardware.

Nah! I think it's the Maple Board inside the Epson PX-8 Geneva.

thats a very general quesiton do you mean current or vintage? what kinda cpu you wanting to run on it?
if your looking for a "NEW" board and just want some brand names you
cant go wrong with an Asus or MSI both have very good support/updates
as far as chipsets go Nvidia make the nforce it's pretty bad ass and expensive but it's worth it.
VIA is cheaper and has very good support/updates
SIS chipsets sometimes you get an extra little bit of preformance but they cost more.
look for a board with pci-express and serial ata.
as already stated your first stop should be http://www.tomshardware.com
then i suggest you haul ass over too http://www.pricewatch.com
whatever you do take your time and if you can hold off wait a few weeks
or a month everything will be cheaper. a high-end single cpu board will
set you back 200 easy so make sure you make the right choice.
You dont have to have the "HOTTEST" new board out, Offten middle of
the road is best cost/preformance ratio.
I also recommend you go with a AMD board over and intel one
Intel likes to change there chip around a lot, amd board will prob have
a better chance of seeing that hot new chip 6months from now.
and they are cheaper.

I'm going with the SLI setup, though, and I've got a preference for Intel chips so I'm waiting for their SLI/Intel offering next month.

they all look pretty good i'd start looking at reviews and checking prices
i'd let my wallet guide me if that is the three i had to choose from as
they all will be good preformers. chaintech is pretty good not asus good
but i had a few of there older boards they work just fine.
if your building your computer from the ground up take your time
picking your case and make sure it will be big enough to fit your board
those are full size boards so dont pick a mini-atx case.
antec makes good cases also i've seen a lot of foxconns that are nice.
also make sure you get a atx-12 and not the older atx, 300watts or better should do the trick.
heat sinks are a must! make sure it can cool your cpu and has a good quality fan.
if the case will take extra fans make sure you pick some up.
low flow, low rpm is good if noise bothers you but for me i like'em blazing fast.
i keep a 7500 rpm on my cpu and a 5000 for the rest and it is loud but im use to it.
now adays i can't sleep with the computer off.
If you are going to use the IDE ports make sure you get you some
rounded cables, also get a rounded cable floppy if you plan on installing one.
if your looking for speakers check out cyber accustics they are cheaper then
most but they have excellent sound.
i bought there CA-4100's about 3 years ago for 50bucks. they are 4.1 30watt total
the one's they sell today are 45watt and cheaper still.

they have great sound and the bass thumps for such a small sub 4'inch
in fact my other system has a 6inch and 100watts total and it can't compare.
you might be intrested in a 5.1 or better set but in my opinion they are'nt worth the money
i have no plans on buying a new pair of speakers for some time to come.
keyboard & mouse i use a logitech wireless one (non optical) there are
so many models idont even remember the one i have but it works pretty good about 15ft range.
if your going to add a burner to the system i suggest a plextor drive
they cost a bit more but you can't cheap out on your burner.
if you need anymore help just ask but again i'd advise you to check out
toms hardware it's always my first stop.
