Is it still worthwhile? Moreover is it worth a trip from NJ? I haven't been to one in over 10 years.

It's hit and miss, sometimes it's great, sometimes it's not. From the NYC metro area part of NJ it's probably worth it, I don't know if I'd drive up from the southern end, go thru the NYC mess, and then make the trip to Boston.
