Atari800 with ATR8000

Hi,

I have an Atari 800, which works with two cartridges I have, BASIC and Musical Madness game.
I plug the BASIC cartridge in the left slot and after powering on the ATR8000 + floppy drive (and monitor) I power up the Atari 800. Get the "READY".

1. What do I type to access the disk?

2. when I type DOS it oddly takes me straight to ATARI COMPUTER - MEMO PAD.

You need something like Atari DOS to interact with the disk, which you load by having a DOS diskette in the drive when you power on the Atari 800. If all you want to do is run a game from disk (and the disk is bootable) then just make sure it's in the drive when you power on and your Atari should attempt to boot from it automatically.

If the floppy drive is connected to the ATR8000, you are going to need a DOS that is compatible with the ATR8000 such as MyDOS. See here http://www.mathyvannisselroy.nl/mydos.htm. You can find a copy of the ATR800 manual here http://firewi.com/ahs/archives/atr8000.pdf.
