I recently purchased an atari 65xe for cheap. Seller sent pics it works but he didnt send power supply as I said I had one and he needed his for his betrer condition 130xe. Well my psu is only for the 400/800 non XL/xe models. I found I can make one online with a standard usb cable, but my question is, would i need to connect the shield material to the shield pin (pin 2) or omit this when building the cable?

I also have a 65XE sitting on the shelf that's waiting on me to have a chance to do a USB power conversion.

Personally, I'd connect the shields just because, although it probably doesn't matter for the operation of the machine (although I am just making quasi-educated assumptions here). I would think that the RF shielding and stuff connects to the shield pin and the "gnd" pins are a cleaner logic ground. But nobody uses broadcast television receivers anymore, so it probably doesn't really matter whether the shielding is grounded or not.
