Does anyone know how to prevent a submit file from loading (and executing) at boot time? I have aome files that run a logo and/or a menu prog after booting, and I think that it is causing the machine to hang. It spins up and seeks track zero, then it steps throuhg tracks one, two, and three, then it just hangs. Once in a while it will display a screen full of garbage and then lock up.
Since it does appear to read track zero, it must be somethingg beyond the boot and directory tracks that is crashing it.

Unfortunately I don't really know, unless you
have a backup boot disk, so you could get
in and modify the submit file. DOS has some
sort of keypress which prevants it booting
up 'autoexec.bat' & 'config.sys' (I think),
but 'am unsure if CP/M has something like
this! Sorry.

As to your question relating to the Osborne
1, I definitely think you should keep it.
Getting one later on (if you decide to do that)
will become much harder. Many people in the
Amstrad community now are regretting selling
their Amstrads & finding one has been a
battle. For myself, I was fortunate to get one
with Colour screen 5.25", 3" disk drives &
tape deck (for the covertrapes) was lucky.
Lots of people who did have Amstrads
unfortunately went on to get themselves an
Amiga & cause now buying an second hand
Amiga is rather easy, but that's the price they
pay for being a traitor! :)

Cheers.

I finally found out the answer to my own question...but I don't rember WHY I needed to know!
I dragged my Kaypro 10 and a couple of books on cp/m out of storage the other day and have been playing with it almost non-stop ever since I got it home. I thought I had forgot most of what I once knew of cp/m, but once I started messing with it again it all came back to me.
Anyways, to stop a submit file from executing, you just hold down the DELETE (RUBOUT) key when the submit program is running

I think you should sell your osborne on Ebay. I sold mine on Ebay a couple of years ago for a substantial price and now I miss it. Maybe if you sell yours, I could buy it and be happy again.
I saw alot of those crooked looking things sitting on the floors of the Good Will stores all the time. Who would of thunk I couldn't get another one cheap.
