Hello,

So i have a compaq slt386 and AC adapter, but no cord to connect it to the pc.

When plugged into the outlet it flashes green.
A kind user of the website provided the pin out of the port which is 18V on pin4 and 0 GND to 6 in order for the pc to run.

Now, i’m a big idiot, big big idiot. I needed to know if the machine worked cause i need it for a thing and I obviously could not wait.

So I connected pin4 and pin6 on the AC adapter to pin4 and pin6 of the computer. (i already laughed cried and screamed at myself). i guess desperation and lack of time makes you do strange things.

Yes, i tuned the pc on. well nothing happened but the AC adapter started clicking which means short.

The green light never became solid green on the power adapter but that is cause i did not connect all the pins.

Is it likely that i killed the poor thing and shorted the PCB?

Or the ac adapter clicked cause not all the pins were connected and didn’t give power.

No smoke or other things from the pc. no signs of life.

I need a bench psu…

If the voltages you applied are significantly higher than 18v, then yes....
