Toshiba T3100/20

I bought a Toshiba T3100/20 from the same seller as the ibm 5155, unfortunately it's not booting. This is due to the hard drive, I can't hear it spinning up or anything. I tried to open it to take a look but in the manual it seems like I have to disassemble the screen to remove the top part and look at the hard drive. Is this the only way to access it?

AFAIK you can open it up without disassembling the screen. It is a bit of a rats nest of cables between the drives, but it is doable. It is probably a 26pin harddisk (ST506 variant) that is in the T3100 (http://fjkraan.home.xs4all.nl/comp/divcomp/26pinHD.html).
