Ok so this is a not so vintage computer but was wondering is it possible to add any CD-ROM or DVD drive to this unit? It looks like standard IDE but does it need to be Apple branded? Was think of adding a DVD burner is reason for question.

It has a G4 450 Processor and 512 MB memory.

Non Apple CD-DVD ROM Drives wont boot of a DVD or CD Usually, if ya want an apple ROMed drive, i got a dozen or so extras here, you can have one for shipping

The Apple-ROM thing was only for SCSI drives, and it was removed in OS 8.5? I know because I've ran Apple Diags off a regular 52x CD-ROM in my G4 and my G5 has a Plextor PXA-712, neither Apple branded.

I put in a Ativa (office depot) brand dvd-burner/cd-burner and it works fine. Booted the Tiger DVD just fine. And I know what you mean by the SCSI thing. Needed to hack the program to use with non-apple SCSI drives. Had to do with my SE/30 and an IBM SCSI drive i wanted to use.
