GCC HyperDrive 10: History, Installation & Software

The first internal hard drive for the Macintosh made its debut in 1985, offering a rather modest 10MB of storage space for a whopping $2,195 for a Mac512. If you were unlikely and had the 128K Mac, the kit would cost you $2,795! Keep in mind those prices didn't include the cost of the Mac. It was the only internal, pre-SCSI drive that was sold by Apple authorized dealers and did not invalidate the Mac's warranty. GCC's HyperDrive was also unique in that it was the only Mac hard disk in 1985 that could boot on its own, without floppy disk assistance. It even included partitions called "Drawers" that would automatically resize as you added content to them.
