It has a 500MB in it that works, but is pretty small.

I've tried these:

250G - does post, found at 15M or 500M depending on BIOS setting.
30G - does not post
16G "kingspec" SSD - does not post

Any idea how large the Toshiba BIOS will support?

I ordered a couple of things to try. A 6.4G drive and a CF to IDE adapter for an 8G piece of CF I have laying around.

You can buy industrial CF cards that are seen as 'fixed disk' but generally the consumer type are seen as 'removable', There are tools around that say they can change a 'removable' to 'fixed' CF but it seem's they only work with certain CF cards, Use the tool on the wrong CF Card and you can render it useless with no going back.

You may find a CF card won't work in such an old toshiba anyway let alone an 6.4Gb spinning drive at the full capacity.

For MS-DOS and Win95, the "removable" flag shouldn't make a difference. Where it does seem to create havoc is in XP and later. For that, there are "layered" drivers that can be installed to mask the bit without risking device damage.

Tried two things today - 6G PATA drive works fine and also a CF adapter with an 8G CF card works fine too.
