I think the extra 384K of its original memory can be selected between extended or EMS in the BIOS, but my question is, can any of it be UMB's somehow?

There is a toshiba emm.sys driver - does it do this somehow? Does anyone have the documentation for it?

First, I'm not familiar with this Toshiba. If you need the memory for loading programs high, the first 64 KB if the extended memory can be used for this as well.

Next is pure speculation: if it must be UMB, install the memory as EMS but with a page size as big as possible. This page is UMB, technically speaking. But it is possible that DOS sees there is an EMS driver loaded using this memory and therefore won't use it as UMB.
In the last case you could hack the driver to find out how the memory is made visible and just do that. Then there will be no signs of an EMS driver and DOS will consider this memory as UMB.

I wish you luck!
