I have a Seagate ST41200ND SCSI device and when I connect the SCSI cable to it, it won't spin up. If I disconnect the SCSI cable the drive will spin up immediately when I power on the PC.
I have the drive connected to an Adaptec AHA-1542CP which I would think wouldn't make a difference, but who knows.
I know my SCSI controller and my SCSI cable works properly because I connected it to my SCSI CD-ROM and it detected it just fine.
I'm perplexed as to why it spins up with the SCSI cable disconnected, but it doesn't spin up with it connected. I would think, even if I had the SCSI-ID and terminators incorrect, it would at least spin up. Another thought would be that I have the SCSI cable in backward, but it's pretty hard to screw that up when the SCSI cable is keyed and I tripled checked that pin-1 is connected to pin-1 on the SCSI controller.
I must be missing something super simple, but I'm not sure what.
