does any one have info about the ibm 5150s floppy controller

does anyone have info about the ibm 5150s floppy controller.

It's an 8 bit ISA floppy disk controller that supports two DD floppy drives internally, and two more externally. What info are you looking for? It's a pretty basic card, it doesn't exactly have any kinds of settings or options.

Getting a disk error while doing what? Booting? Reading? Writing?

Are you using a known good floppy drive? A known good disk?

Need some more info here :)

So, you turn the computer on, and it beeps and displays what on the screen? Does it give an error code? Do the lights on the disk drives come on, then go off, or are they on solid? If they're on solid from the moment you turn on the computer, then you have a cable plugged in upside down...

Or does it give you an error after reading from the disk for a bit? How many drives do you have connected, and what kind? Is there a drive connected after the twist in the cable?

1it beeps then counts memory
2it beeps again then says "disk error !"
3the light on the drive does not turn on at all
4the cable is inserted correctly
5one drive is connected it is a 31/2 inch 720k drive
6its connected after the twist

How is the 3 1/2" drive jumpered? You need to be sure it's jumpered for drive select 1 (not zero).
Have you tried it with a 360k 5 1/4" drive?

-Ian

Do you have a spare working drive cable? It's possible that either the floppy cable has gone bad (one improper bend over 30 years) or that the power cable or the converter from molex to the 3 1/2" drive's actual power connector has failed.

i tried a 5.25 drive and it worked :)

also do you think it is safe to test a old full height tandon drive that was in the elements
