i think this is a dumb question because the answer seems to obviously be yes but....i recently aquired a ibm ps/2 model 50Z. i assumed all ps/2s used VGA and everything i read on the system said VGA but when i attempted to hook it up to my CRT monitor (early 2000's monitor) it would not connect. apperently my monitor has an extra pin. i assumed most vga was standard for earlyiest to current. does this mean i have to get a ps/2 monitor or some older monitor or some kind of expensive MCA adaptor card?

Nothing special about it - that extra pin is a grounding pin, and IBM just blocked it out, presumably so that people wouldn't use after-market monitors with the PS/2 line. Snip the pin, or make an adapter that loses it and you're set.

ah, thanks. crafty crafty IBM. rather then cut i pin i just carfully poked a hole in the VGA port. works like a charm now with all monitors
