I'm going to pick up a lot of disk drives from someone on freecycle. She says she has 15 external IBM 5.25" disk drives. She also said that they look "very old", but she doesn't know really what they are. I am assuming these are the ones for the MCA PS/2 systems. Did IBM make any other external drives?

I'm guessing that they are IBM 4869s. They came in high density and double density varieties. Some came with a simple internal card to bring a port outside of the machine. Others (double density ones) plugged directly into the external floppy connector on the PC or XT.

They have heavy .. I like them, and if it were in my neighborhood I'd try to save a few.

BTW, I moved this to PCs and Clones ..
