Did I get a fake cpu?

I've purchased several items from UTSOURCE recently .....haven't have any problems with them.

Not sure what the exact difference between the V20 and V30 is, but if you really wanted the
V30 send them an email and see what they can do.....

Try it--you won't kill the board; the thing just won't work. The labeling looks to be original--usually, the Chinese rebranding is not as finely detailed. FWIW, I have a V30 known to be good and it doesn't say V-anything on it. Just the 70116 line.

Re the eBay auction.

The "V20HL, V30HL 16/8, 16-BIT MICROPROCESSOR" is taken directly from a datasheet, a datasheet that covers the CMOS versions of both V20 and V30:
http://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/162446/NEC/UPD70116HCZ-10.html

Technically, their auction is describing both the V20 and V30 (CMOS versions). Because there is no, "Advise us which chip you want: V20 or V30", UTSOURCE don't know what they are selling. They've simply done an Internet search on the part number and found the datasheet.

The V30 is a 70116; the V20 is a 70108.

It's anybody's guess which this is--but I'll venture that it really is a V30.

Just installed it, apparently it is a real v30. I guess someone was asleep at the wheel over at NEC? Thanks for the replies! I can pretty much guarantee that if I had not asked, I'd fry a board. That's just how my life goes. :rofl:

Code:
[UIDB69D11C1CB]MemoryTest=1217
OpcodeTest=608
VidramTest=927
MemEATest=760
3DGameTest=580
Score=12
CPU=NEC V30
CPUspeed=8 MHz
BIOSinfo=00F2092 COPR. IBM 1981, 1987    PARITY CHECK 1 (06/26/87, rev. 0)
MachineModel=01FA
BIOSdate=19870626
BIOSCRC16=B69D
VideoSystem=MCGA
VideoAdapter=MCGA
Machine=PS/2 Model 25/25L

It does look nice next to the 8087. ^.^

Their picture shows on the 2nd line that the chip is a V30. The chip I got in the mail has the same model number but has v20 on it. Did I get boned? I don't really want to put it into a system out of fear it will kill the board.

I have bought from their ebay store & direct from their webstore... so far 4 out of 10 different processors I have bought have been fakes or remarks.
Some are remarks of same slower part... some are out right fakes.. markings & die
