Hey everyone, my name is tom. I am new here obviously. I just today picked up an Ibm 5170 with a Komodo mono crt, a tape backup system, model m keyboard , and a davo g external HDD. I know I am missing some cables for sure. I just got home from work and the stuff is all in the back of my truck. I was wondering if over the next day or so I could start taking pics and uploading as I go to get help with what things are and what I may need. I'm no newb to visit tage computers but this is my first vintage PC. Also I paid 125$ think it was a good deal? The monitor has burn in sadly. Let me know what everyone thinks and I'll start posting pics. Nice to be here, thanks again

Ok awesome, I get off work at 6pm EST . I'll start posting then. Thanks for the reply! Do I need to use an image hosting site, or does the forum support image posting?

There is a monitor too but it's burned in badly so who cares? But ya that's the stuff, I'm really beat tonight but tmrw I am going to take the PC apart and see what's inside.bi hope that those expansion cards are spread apart like that is because of ram cards inside. Does anyone know what the card to the far right is? Is it cga, vga, what? I know the left one is mda , why would anyone have two video cards? This came from a doctor's office I even have tapes with all the info from the office backed up. But anyway let me know what you think k,and I'd also love to see any of your guys PC/AT. Thanks guys!

Sorry for the double post, I'm still being moderated so I can't edit. Anyway, I also realized the monitor is a 5051 not w Komodo, to bad it's burned in

Depends on if everything works. If it does, definitely a good deal! I'm jealous, even with the burn in. ;)

Looking forwards to the photos, and welcome to the forum.

On the right it looks like it's MDA (9 pin female socket + printer socket, 99% of the time that's MDA, quite possibly the original).

The other 9 pin connector on the left is a serial port, likely the original IBM serial+parallel card.

Oh duh! I totally forgot about serial, wow sorry. I have off today so I'm gonna open it up and take some more pictures then get it setup tonight. Thanks for the replies. And yes that is an external HDD. I believe I read they we're available in 4-20mb configurations but I could be wrong

Got busy with home surround sound and audio video setup today, I'm sorry guys but I promise I will crack her open tmrw. On an off chance does anyone know how to clean up these wires? 15393053220501596788357.jpg15393053220501596788357.jpg15393053220501596788357.jpg153930540001321712492.jpg

Like maybe some sort of wall colored tape? Does such a product exist? My bedroom is pretty small because we use the master as a home theatre
In there we have flat wall colored speaker wire for the surround. Is there some kind of tap to cover the wires from the laptop and everything? If asking this is against forum rules I will delete the reply I'm sorry

Also I'd like for you guys to post your good I 5170 finds/buys. I'd love to see them
