Canon VP3000

It looks like a custom micro-controller to me. These would have ROM code in them for specific applications.

The dip chip? I just need to point out this unit sports an 8088. I suppose the possibility is the dip at least uses a Canon house number, and it's perhaps someing as mundane as a 6845. I guess I would have to draw up a rudimentary schematic to see what it looks like.
 
The dip was the one I was talking about. I can't see the flat pack but it looks like a display or RAM chip.
