About Bus Mouse mice and the Genius GM-7

I understand that the Genius GM-7 uses the Bus Mouse protocol. But ALL the Bus Mouse cards available for the PC that I have seen use a Mini Din 9 port, whereas the Genius Mouse GM-7 uses a female DB9 connector.

Was this sort of Bus Mouse type only used on home computers like Atari ST and the Spectrum?
(Does the Amiga also use a Bus Mouse protocol?)

Some PC bus mouse cards used a DE9 connector. https://www.oldmouse.com/miscellanea/mousebus.shtml talks about it in the context of Logitech cards but does not provide a picture. Note that the Alto mouse used a similar 9-pin connector, can't get much earlier than that. https://www.oldmouse.com/articles/xerox/Alto.shtml

I believe most of these mice are not interchangeable. The protocols used differ somewhat even when the card has the same connector.

This is what I was worried about - slight differences between the protocols.
