Tandy Model 102, is the memory battery required??

I've got a model 102, and saw that it has an internal nicad, that I've just removed.. For standard just playing around with, is this battery required? Can it have a CR2032 mod like alot of other old machines?

The 102 will operate without the internal battery. Just remember to save everything before turning it off or replacing the AA batteries.

There is a capacitor replacement for the battery that I have read about.
