Jvc 26 pid hdd?

Been doing some reading, and looking around, for info on the subject of the 26 pin hdd from JVC that is in so many laptops.

seems like there isnt a good alternative if the one in the laptop is dead. Am I right?

I'm looking at a zenith zwl-183-92 and it is indicating Drive error on boot up, and no drive spinning. So I am thinking that this hdd is toast, with no great options.

The drive may actually be fine and it could be because the battery is dead. The hard drive will NOT work or even spin up in those laptops if the battery pack is missing or dead. It’s possible the drive has “stiction” too, but it’s impossible to know for sure if the battery is dead (which is almost a guarantee).

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'm going to have to pay up and buy it to find out!
